State Tax Law

Federal income tax is not the only tax that has to be paid by US citizens. Each individual state has a set of tax laws and they each carry out their own individual methods for charging those taxes to people living there. Most states require you to pay your taxes annually. They are to be filed along with your federal tax return. That is the general method that most Americans use to pay their state taxes but not all. For states such as Washington State, you will have to pay a sales tax on everything you buy as well as certain use taxes. These taxes are paid at the time of purchase or use.

In past years a resident would simply pay the sales tax and that was the end of it. In more recent years, it has come to the attention of the people of Washington state that others were getting a credit for state tax on their refund that they weren’t receiving. The reason for this was because of the omission of state tax on the annual refund. This state tax law has now been amended and residents of Washington state now receive a sales tax credit on their tax returns.
